In EBM our goal is to provide age appropriate youth and children’s provision for those aged 4–25. As we embark on the opening of Skainos later in 2012 we want to provide space for children and young people to connect to the life of EBM. Our youth and children’s work will be changing and developing, to provide opportunities and programmes for those within the local community as well as those connected to the EBM congregation.
We are always open to new ventures and possibilites and would love to hear your ideas and suggestions as we seek to develop our work in a healthy way.
We currently run a number of programmes which you can check out in our ‘Whats On’ section, but we also are involved in some local initiatives which may be of interest to you, which we have mentioned below:
We feel that working with young people in school is a core element of our provision at EBM, using various platforms from SU groups, drop in sessions and outreach events to connect and engage with local children and young people. Currently our team is working in 4 local schools:
Nettlefield PS
Avoniel PS
Ashfield Boys School
Ashfield Girls School
Here at EBM we are committed to engaging with the local community in which we live and work. Outreach and detached youth and children’s work plays a crucial role in how we do what we do.
Outreach work relates to our schools work, our drop in sessions and any pieces of work we engage with which helps connect local children and young people to EBM as an organisation.
Detached work is a focussed project which aims to meet young people on the streets, where they naturally hang out. We use teams of staff and volunteers to engage with local young people as a way of building relationships attempting to break down some of the barriers which exist between the local community and young people.
As a worshipping congregation we believe it is important for children and young people to develop a relationship with God. We run a number of programmes which have a stronger Christian/Faith element to them ranging from children’s church on a sunday to our EBM youth group which meets twice per month.
We are committed to collaborative, partnership based working. Our youth and children’s team work with a wide range of local youth and children’s organisations. We are always keen to support other local agencies as well as explore new opportunities to work with groups for the betterment of Inner East Belfast.
