The Mission Café and meals on wheels provision at East Belfast Mission have played an important role in the local community for many years. The need is pressing – it is acknowledged by the local health trust that there is a growing elderly population and increasing ill health within the area.
The Mission Café has gone from strength to strength in recent months with our professional chef continuing to serve meals of the highest quality and choice.
Seeing Stars!
Our Mission Café was awarded four stars in the Food Standards Agency ‘Scores on the Doors’ Scheme. Designed to promote excellence in food hygiene within local catering establishments, the Mission continues to prove itself as a worthy contender for the many eateries in the area.
Graeme Young, the Catering Manager of the Mission Café
is ‘over the moon’ at the award, but not surprised given our track record!
Many of those elderly who attend every day are men who are now living alone and often have never had the opportunity to learn to cook for themselves – their nourishing meal in the centre can often be their main meal of the day. Up to 45 meals are served every day at the centre – this is an increase of around 30% in the last six months.
Nourishment is more than just food – many of those who attend regularly form strong relationships and look forward to seeing each other. The friendly atmosphere in the centre is something on which we can all rely – learning from and reaching out to others.
The Mission Cafe is open Monday – Friday, 9am – 3pm for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks. We serve speciality coffees and a carryout service is available.
Why not visit the Mission Café on the Newtownards Road and judge for yourself! We’re well worth the four stars!
