There continues to be a waiting list for the Meals on Wheels service due to growing demand and need in the area. Nevertheless, up to 40 meals are delivered every day to local homes, and the average journey length is just ten miles. Those who receive these meals are housebound for various reasons such as disability, elderly issues or mental health issues. The physical need is very real in these homes so the provision of a hot, nourishing meal is vital in the well-being of those who rarely get outdoors or receive visitors.
In the same way as our Mission Café, the food is only half the story – many of those on the meals on wheels list experience little human contact from day to day. The arrival of their meal and a friendly face means a lot to them and also gives them something to look towards every day.
