The New McIlwrath Hall

Mr william hosford, junior circuit steward

The new hall was too small for the Churches activities. The project was led by the Rev. S. D. Ferguson and actioned by our Circuit Steward, Mr. W. J. Hosford (opposite).

The scheme was made possible by the building contractor, Mr. Frank Ferguson, member of Sydenham Methodist Church. The work was conducted by a team of volunteers (their names, by expressed wish, left unrecorded). The building took 4 years to complete.
It is fitting to name it the Mcllwrath Memorial Hall, to replace that which was blitzed and to remember the work carried out during the depression of the 1930's.

Foundation stones were laid on Thursday, 3rd June, 1965, by Miss Gwen Mcllwrath, Mrs. S. D. Ferguson, Miss Jessie Nabney and Mr. Frank Ferguson.
