The Skainos Project will be a flagship development in an inner-city area of considerable deprivation, as well as a statement of confidence in the long-term viability of the community. It is designed to contribute to the regeneration of this inner city loyalist community and build loyalist confidence in the peace process thereby nurturing community relations in the area.
Proposed development on the site includes:
A day centre for the frail elderly, operated in partnership with the South and East Belfast Health Trust (SEBT) and Age Concern Northern Ireland. The facility will cater for up to 60 people on a daily basis.
An information, advice and guidance centre for those who are farthest from the labour market. This will build upon the existing JobBridge project operated in partnership with the Department for Employment and Learning. Work includes literacy and numeracy training and ICT training.
An inner-city centre of excellence for tertiary education, operated in partnership with a third level college. This project would also dovetail with our existing JobBridge project.
A purpose-built youth centre providing personal, social, physical and spiritual development opportunities for young people from the area.
Social housing which will be both hostel style and semi-supported one and two bedroom apartments operated in partnership with Oaklee Housing Association.
Commercial and economic development including retail, café/restaurant and office space.
A community hall suitable for community meetings and sports and leisure opportunities for all ages.
A venue suitable for a worshipping congregation as well as operating as a viable theatre/conference venue.
